The must have series - Part Four

Dresses

There are so many different styles of dresses that even the pickiest of girls can find one that she feels great in. Like everything else, try to be mindful of fit, buying a dress that flatters your figure. In my opinion, classic cuts and dark colors are always the best bet. Besides, let's face it, regardless if you don't feel too comfortable in one, you have to have it. There are occasions that you are required to wear a dress, others that wearing one, just makes you feel that much prettier and dare I say it, powerful and sexy. So take a look at these styles and I'm sure that you'll find one that can bring out the best in you.

THE COCKTAIL

This is where you find the infamous "little black dress" that is such a staple in every woman's wardrobe. A cocktail dress is short (not talking about giving people the full monty here) and can usually be dressed up or down depending how you accessorize it. Try not to go for the too trendy , the right cocktail dress can last you a lifetime.

Maggy London's Pleated Jersey dress has an illusion back, short sleeves and a square neck.
All the ingredients of a classic LBD. The pleats are flattering!! Give them a chance.
Get it at Nordstrom's for $148.

THE TEA LENGTH

This style is completely based on the hem of your dress. Typically, it should hit your mid calf (below the knee and above the ankle), exact hem heights can vary and there's why the line between the cocktail and the tea length can often get blurred. It is usually worn for less formal occasions, but can still be an evening attire given the right accessories and yes, shoes.

This dress worn by actress Christina Hendricks earlier this year, is a perfect example of the tea
length dress. Thanks to  The Fashion Police for the picture.

THE MAXI

Almost as comfortable as your favorite jeans, the maxi dress has made a long journey since the flower power generation of the 60's and 70's. Being for the most part form fitting on top and really loose on the bottom can hide all of our little problem areas. It has been called as the "amorphous" dress by a good friend of mine, saying that you can never tell a woman's real shape in it...Hey, there are days that something like that is all you need.

This Tye Dye Maxi Dress from Gypsy is flirty and sexy. With the embellished
bottom and an empire elastic waist it definitely hides and flatters.
